Tactical officers responded Tuesday morning to a report that a suicidal man had tied up his wife and child and barricaded himself in their home, but the call turned out to be a false story told to get the attention of a friend.

A man reportedly said everything about the barricade in a text message to a friend, who in turn called the police, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

Vancouver officers were able to track the subject to a home near Northeast 86th Avenue and Burton Road. The man’s wife and child were found elsewhere, had not been the victims of a crime and were safe, police said.

SWAT officers responded to the address, police said. Officers located the man and determined he wasn’t a threat to himself or his family. Police said he admitted to sending the initial text to a friend, who was ignoring him, in an attempt to elicit a response.

Officers found that no crimes had been committed and no arrests were made, police said.
