Herrera Beutler says she hopes Trump will earn her support

The same day Donald Trump was crowned the official Republican presidential candidate, U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, a Camas Republican, said she's still hoping he earns her vote. "I've had some real challenges with how he treats women, or has in the past. I've had some real challenges with his comments about minorities, say nothing about supporting eminent domain or single payer," she told The Columbian's editorial board Tuesday. Herrera Beutler said she's still waiting to see more details of Trump's presidential platform and that she would like to see him act more presidential. "I want him to earn my vote, I want to feel like the person who is going to be the leader of the free world, whoever it is, can do the job," she said. Even if Trump fails to garner her vote, the Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton won't be getting it. "I would probably write in my husband, or, you know, I don't know yet. I'm really hoping he does, because ultimately, I think Hillary would be bad for this country," Herrera Beutler said. "I think it would be another eight years of the same." Herrera Beutler said she has never attended a Republican National Convention and didn't this year so she could focus on in-district work.
