A 9-year-old boy whose heart had stopped after a near-drowning in Vancouver
Thursday evening was revived by emergency personnel.

Vancouver Fire Department firefighter-paramedic Darrin Deming said units responded to a call about 7:30 p.m. of a near-drowning incident at Market Place Apartments, 2900 General Anderson Ave. in Vancouver’s Bagley Downs neighborhood.

Deming said two Vancouver engines and an AMR unit arrived to find bystanders performing CPR on the boy. After confirming the boy did not have a pulse, rescuers took over and began advanced lifesaving techniques.

The boy’s heartbeat was restored after a short time, and he was transported via ambulance to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. The boy’s identify or current condition was not available Friday.

Deming said the incident was a reminder of the benefits of underage children using life jackets, even in swimming pools.
