A Vancouver man appeared in court this morning to face charges of attempted murder in connection to a shooting Sunday that injured a 21-year-old man.
Robert Deanda, 18, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of attempted murder, first-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to the Vancouver Police Department.
Detectives with the agency’s safe streets task force and the neighborhood response team worked with the Southwest Washington Regional SWAT team to make the arrest.
The incident occurred at the Springfield Meadow apartments, 4316 N.E. 66th Ave., at about 10:20 p.m. Sunday, where law enforcement were called for a reported weapons disturbance, police said.
Arriving officers found a 21-year-old man suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds, though the suspect was believed to have fled the scene prior to police arrival, Vancouver police said.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Patrick Robinson said that Deanda and the victim were having an argument and the victim ran away. Deanda fired multiple shots, hitting him in the back torso area, Robinson said.
A second victim reported hearing a bullet near his head, Robinson said. He argued that because the shooting was in an apartment complex, there could have been more victims.
The injured man was treated at an area hospital for injuries described as not life-threatening.
Judge Robert Lewis set Deanda’s bail at $500,000 and scheduled his arraignment for Aug. 9.
