Ridgefield turns to students for holiday card art

Ridgefield — For the third year, the Ridgefield School District and Ridgefield Arts Association are teaming up for the district’s holiday card contest. Students in the district can submit artwork on the theme “Joy” for a chance at a cash prize and to have their picture featured on the district’s holiday greeting card. This year’s first-place finisher will receive $50, and each of the three semi-finalists will earn $25. All four designs will be printed on separate greeting cards and made available for purchase. The designs must fit on a half-sheet of letter-size paper, are must be submitted to the student’s school office by Nov. 1. South Ridge Elementary School third-grader Emma Waddle won the contest last year for her drawing of a snowman and tree surrounded by falling snow as seen through a window. The district’s Community Education Department will host free holiday card workshops for students of all ages at 3:40 to 4:40 p.m. Tuesday at South Ridge Elementary School, 502 N.W. 199th St. and from 2:40 to 3:40 p.m. Oct. 26 at Union Ridge Elementary School, 330 N. Fifth Ave.
