Battle Ground Public Schools is among the top 10 school districts in the state for Advance Placement course access and AP test scores, according to a ranking by College Board released Wednesday.

Battle Ground was the only Southwest Washington district recognized in the top 10 for increasing access to AP coursework and the percentage of students who score 3 or greater on AP tests.

Students who take AP classes have the opportunity to earn college credit while they are still in high school. The College Board said Washington students who take AP exams cumulatively save more than $53 million in college costs.

College Board offers AP exams in 37 subjects. Students take the tests in May and receive scores on a scale from 1 to 5. Washington ranked 15th nationally for the number of high school seniors (22.6 percent) who scored 3 or greater on AP exams.
