The Vancouver and Battle Ground police departments and the Washington State Patrol will put additional officers out on the roads over the weekend for extra impaired-driving patrols, according to the Vancouver police.

Officers trained as drug recognition experts will be out and about, as well.

Halloween and the corresponding weekend, according to the department, are typically among the most dangerous days for impaired driving.

Three people in Clark County, including two teenage boys and a 7-year-old trick-or-treater, died in 2014 because of Halloween night traffic crashes, both of which were connected to driver impairment.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, about half of all traffic deaths on Halloween night involve an impaired driver.

The Vancouver Police Department encouraged anyone out and about for the weekend to make sure they have a plan to get home safe.
