Two people injured in a Friday mobile home night fire north of La Center were released from the hospital the same evening.

Neighbors and nearby family members called 911 at about 7:40 p.m. to report the fire at a double-wide mobile home, 1216 N.W. 384th Circle, north of La Center and east of Woodland, Clark County Deputy Fire Marshal Susan Anderson said.

The fire started on a covered patio when a resident tried to put fuel into an emergency generator while it was still running, Anderson said. An electrical arc ignited the gasoline vapors, sparking a fire that consumed the deck with flames, she said.

The two residents and their dog escaped the blaze but were injured and taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, where they were released later that evening, Anderson said.

The fire significantly damaged the home, causing about $35,500 damage to the structure and $140,000 in damage to contents, Anderson said.

The two occupants of the home were displaced and are staying with relatives, Anderson said.
