Two Vancouver women were arrested Tuesday after, authorities say, they sent deputies on a pursuit that ended in a crash in Happy Valley, Ore.
Deputies with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Clackamas Town Center at about 3 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a theft from the Forever 21 store, the agency said.
According to the sheriff’s office, two women, later identified as 19-year-old Nina Jackson and 20-year-old Chaniq Green, both of Vancouver, filled two bags of clothing and fled the store without paying.
A description of the women’s vehicle was relayed to deputies, who spotted it nearby. In an attempt to pull the vehicle over, the deputy activated emergency lights but the vehicle accelerated away at a high speed, the sheriff’s office said.
The deputy lost sight of the vehicle, but found it a short time later flipped on its top in the driveway of a home in a nearby neighborhood.
Jackson and Green had fled from the crashed vehicle, the sheriff’s office said, but the two were spotted trying to scale the fence of a nearby property. Deputies stopped and arrested them.
The women were taken to an area hospital for minor injuries before they were booked into the Clackamas County Jail.
According to the sheriff’s office, Green faces charges of second-degree theft, injury hit-and-run, two counts of eluding a peace officer and reckless driving, and Jackson faces charges of second-degree theft and interfering with a peace officer.
The items allegedly stolen from Forever 21 were returned to the store, police said.
