An early morning dryer fire at an apartment complex in the Five Corners area displaced 11 people in two units.
Crews with the Vancouver Fire Department were called to The Mews at Cascadia Village, 9500 N.E. 73rd St., at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday. The Mews is a subsidized complex for low-income households that’s owed by Reach Community Development.
But by the time they got there, the fire was already contained to the dryer, Clark County Deputy Fire Marshal Dan Young said.
“The sprinklers did their job and protected the people,” he said.
Two apartment units were damaged in the blaze, Young said. Seven adults and four children were displaced, according to the American Red Cross.
The organization provided temporary housing, food, clothing, comfort kits and information about recovery services.
Young said that the fire, which caused an estimated $20,000 to $25,000 in damage, was likely caused by clothes in the dryer catching fire.
