A baby riding in a pickup involved in two-vehicle collision Tuesday afternoon in Dollars Corner came away from the crash unharmed, but three adults were taken hospitals with serious injuries after firefighters cut them from their mangled vehicles.
The crash was reported around 12:40 p.m., at the intersection of Northeast 72nd Avenue and state Highway 502, or Northeast 219th Street.
Clark County Fire & Rescue Division Chief Tim Dawdy said a small, blue four-door sedan and pickup collided at the intersection, but the Washington State Patrol was still investigating what happened later that afternoon.
Firefighters used a hydraulic cutting tool extract two people, a man and woman apparently in their 30s, from the car, and they were sent to the hospital with serious injuries.
The pickup’s driver, a woman roughly in her 50s, also needed to be cut loose, Dawdy said, as did a baby riding with her. The woman was taken to the hospital for serious injuries.
The baby was properly restrained, Dawdy said, “Which greatly contributed the baby being completely uninjured, even though the truck was rolled over.”
Washington State Patrol Trooper Will Finn said on Twitter a the pickup driver suffered head trauma, and her arm was pinned under the rolled truck.
Dawdy said firefighters had to cut away much of the top of the pickup to get her loose.
For a time, one or all lanes heading west on Highway 502 was blocked, as well was the intersection at Dollars Corner. The Washington State Department of Transportation said the scene was cleared shortly after 4 p.m.
