Battle Ground – Battle Ground Public Schools received a $25,000 grant from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction to develop a volunteer program to help homeless students, the district announced.

The money will support a volunteer program creating resilience coaches to work with students facing housing instability. The district’s Family and Community Resource Center and Connect Battle Ground will identify and train resilience coaches to work with the district’s unaccompanied youth — homeless students not with a guardian.

Coaches should be willing to volunteer about 10 to 12 hours a month for training and meeting with students.

Those interested in becoming a coach should contact ConnectBG at 360-399-6445 or email connect@connectbg.org. The BGPS Family and Community Resource Center can be reached at 360-885-5434.
