Minnehaha — When Maddon Maynard heard DOGPAW, or the Dog Owners Group for Park Access in Washington, was struggling financially, he wanted to help.

Maddon, 5, decided to bake dog treats, with help from his parents Colbie Tomasli and Ryen Maynard, and he ended up raising more than $1,000 for the nonprofit organization.

They baked between 2,000 and 3,000 treats, and made them using egg, flour, oatmeal and pumpkin.

“It would be sad if the dogs didn’t have a place to play,” Maddon said. He and his dog, Hunter, like to play tag and football, Maddon said.

The family is still taking orders, and Tomasli said people have told them to make it a regular business to keep raising money for the nonprofit, but that’s still up in the air.

“I’m very proud of him,” she said. “We made 80 to 100 first, and I didn’t think we’d sell any.”
