Mountain View High School was placed on lockdown briefly Friday afternoon after someone reported seeing a teenager in the area with what appeared to be a firearm.

Vancouver police were called to investigate at about 1:40 p.m. in the 900 block of Southeast Park Crest Avenue after someone at an apartment complex believed they saw a male in the parking lot put a gun in his waistband. The teen then started to walk toward the school grounds, police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

The school was placed in lockdown as a precaution for 15 to 20 minutes, Evergreen Public Schools spokeswoman Gail Spolar said.

Multiple officers responded, contacted the teen and took him into custody. Officers found an airsoft-type replica firearm in the area. Kapp said the 17-year-old was booked at the juvenile detention center. His booking charges were not immediately available.

It’s unclear if the teen is a student at Mountain View High School.
