A 68-year-old Washougal man was sentenced Friday in Clark County Superior Court to spend 23 years to life in prison stemming from a 2013 child rape case, court records show.

Leroy F. Salsbery was convicted of two counts of first-degree child rape and two counts of first-degree child molestation following a jury trial this month. He abused a girl whom he baby-sat on multiple occasions between June 2012 and July 2013. The victim was 8 years old when the abuse began and 9 when it ended, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Superior Court.

Salsbery had no criminal history, court records say.

In addition to finding Salsbery guilty on the four counts, the jury also found aggravating factors — abuse of trust — that allowed for the longer-than-normal sentence, according to court documents.
