A pedestrian was seriously injured when a vehicle crashed into him in Vancouver’s Fircrest neighborhood Thursday night. While police were investigating, officers were nearly injured themselves in a separate crash.

Officers responded to a reported crash in the 500 block of Northeast 112th Avenue at about 10:30 p.m., where they found a vehicle had struck a 29-year-old man, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

The initial investigation shows that a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old Vancouver man struck the pedestrian, who was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash, police said.

More details about the crash were not immediately available. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

Northeast 112th Avenue between Northeast Third Street and Northeast Seventh Street, were blocked while police investigated but the street has since been re-opened.

While officers were on scene assisting with traffic control, an un-involved vehicle nearly struck one of the officers, police said.

That vehicle was stopped and the driver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Information on the person arrested was not immediately available.
