A motorcyclist who crashed while fleeing police continued the pursuit on foot despite suffering significant injuries, according to the Vancouver Police Department.
Officers eventually arrested John H. Weber, 40, of Vancouver, who was first spotted by officers driving a motorcycle at a high rate of speed on Southeast McGillvray near Southeast Chkalov Drive at about 9 p.m. Sunday, Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.
An officer attempted to pull the motorcyclist over, but Weber ran the light at Southeast Seventh Street and continued through the Mill Plain Boulevard intersection, Kapp said.
The officer discontinued the pursuit, last spotting the driver heading north on Northeast 112th Avenue near Northeast Ninth Street, Kapp said.
A short time later, officers were dispatched to a motorcycle crash in the 11900 block of Northeast 18th Street, where witnesses told arriving officers that the motorcyclist had crashed then took off on foot heading south, Kapp said.
Officers set up containment and a police dog tracked Weber, locating him in some trees near the 1600 block of Northeast 121st Avenue, Kapp said.
Weber was taken to an area hospital for treatment of significant injuries sustained in the crash, Kapp said. When he was discharged, he was booked into the Clark County Jail for suspicion of eluding a police officer, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and a misdemeanor warrant.
