Clark County sheriff's deputies will no longer respond to noninjury traffic accidents that aren't blocking traffic, according to a news release issued this morning.
Deputies will still respond if there is suspicion that a driver might be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the roadway is blocked by debris, there's a disturbance, public property is damaged or one of the drivers doesn't have a license.
The change is being made because of growing service demands and a shortage of deputies, according to the news release. The sheriff's office has several unfilled positions, and is in the process of recruiting and hiring more deputies.
Drivers involved in a minor accident should pull safely off the roadway and exchange insurance and drivers license information. If any vehicle has damage of $1,000 or more, drivers need to complete a state accident report, online at www.wsp.wa.gov/publications/collision.htm
