Two people riding on a motorcycle were critically injured Thursday in a crash with a car on Northeast 137th Avenue in Vancouver, according to the Vancouver Police Department. One rider lost part of her lower leg in the crash.

The crash was reported shortly after 2 p.m. at 137th Avenue and Northeast 59th Street, south of Fourth Plain Boulevard, according to Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

Kapp said investigators determined that motorist Paula Hamilton, 68, of Vancouver did not see a motorcycle when turning left from 59th Street onto 137th Avenue, and a motorcycle driven by Vladimir Glushko, 43, of Battle Ground crashed into her vehicle.

Kapp said that passenger Raisa Glushko, 42, suffered a severed lower leg.

The Vancouver Fire Department said the Glushkos were transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center with critical injuries, but they didn’t appear to be life-threatening. Both riders were wearing helmets, the fire department said. Their conditions were not available Thursday night.

Officials closed traffic on 137th Avenue from Fourth Plain south to 49th Street at police and medical personnel responded.

Kapp said late Thursday afternoon that the police department’s traffic unit was investigating the crash. No citations had been issued, and driver impairment was not a factor, she said.

Hamilton was evaluated at the scene following the crash, the fire department said, but was not taken to a hospital.
