A Vancouver man has pleaded not guilty to 19 felony counts in relation to a shooting earlier this month at a Portland McDonald’s drive-thru.

The Oregonian reported that a judge ordered Lofton Thomas Lane, 19, to be held in the Multnomah County Jail in lieu of more than $1.8 million bail after he appeared in court Thursday.

According to a news release from the Portland Police Bureau, Lane was arrested Wednesday night at a Portland residence on suspicion of 11 counts of unlawful use of a weapon, two counts each of attempted aggravated murder, attempted murder, second-degree assault and one count each of first-degree assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Lane also had two unrelated warrants for a parole violation and furnishing false information to a police officer.

The investigation began at 5:21 p.m. April 4, when East Precinct officers responded to the report of a shooting outside a McDonald’s restaurant at Northeast 108th Avenue and Weidler Street. Responding officers located two people, a 19-year-old male and a 19-year-old female, suffering from gunshot wounds. The wounds were not life-threatening.

Officers searched the neighborhood for three people who ran from the scene, eventually locating and detaining all three. All three were booked on charges and a fourth person was arrested at the scene and booked.

Gang Enforcement Team detectives responded to the scene and learned that there was an exchange of gunfire between people in two cars, and detectives developed information leading to the arrest of Lane on suspicion of being one of the shooters. The other alleged shooter, 19-year-old Anthony James Gray, was one of the men booked shortly after the shooting.
